One Mobile Launches 5G Smartphone Payroll Scheme for Civil Servants
By Alvin Lansana Kargbo

One Mobile has introduced a new 5G Smartphone Payroll Plan designed to make next-generation devices and unlimited data more affordable and accessible to public and civil service employees across Sierra Leone. The initiative was officially launched on Thursday, 13th November 2025, at the company’s Wilkinson Road office by Chief Operating Officer David Kpakima, who described the scheme as a major step toward empowering Government workers and accelerating digital inclusion nationwide.

Under the plan, eligible employees can acquire a 5G smartphone at zero upfront cost, bundled with unlimited monthly data, while paying NLe 450 per month through a payroll deduction spread over 24 months. The deductions are expected to begin within the next ten days.

David Kpakima said the initiative builds on Sierra Leone’s fast-paced digital evolution, noting that the country has seen unprecedented improvements in connectivity driven by One Mobile’s extensive investment in fibre and next-generation networks.

He highlighted the company’s Metro Space initiative, launched in 2022, through which One Mobile has deployed over 180,000 meters of fibre across the country, providing enhanced access to businesses, institutions and homes.

He also emphasized that One Mobile has positioned Sierra Leone at the forefront of technological innovation by introducing West Africa’s first mobile 5G Standalone (SA) network. The advanced system works seamlessly with existing 4G infrastructure to deliver faster speeds, higher reliability and ultra-low latency, while minimizing dependency on fixed fibre connections.

According to him, the standalone network currently covers approximately 85% of Freetown, with expansion ongoing in provincial areas.

Speaking at the event, Horatio Dove Pratt, a representative from One Mobile’s Sales and Distribution Department, said the smartphone scheme reflects the company’s mission to democratize access to cutting-edge technology. He stressed that removing upfront costs and allowing convenient payroll deductions will enable more workers to own modern 5G devices and stay connected without financial strain.

“This initiative is part of our broader digital inclusion agenda,” Horatio Dove Pratt said. “Every Sierra Leonean deserves access to world-class internet services and this scheme brings us closer to that reality.”

The launch marks another milestone in One Mobile’s efforts to drive Sierra Leone’s digital transformation. With expanded 5G coverage and accessible device financing, the company says it is committed to building a more connected and technologically empowered nation. https://thecalabashnewspaper.com/one-mobile-launches-5g-smartphone-payroll-scheme-for-civil-servants/
