The President of the Sierra Leone Lebanese Community, Samir Hassaniyeh, on Monday 16th January 2017 in a press conference held at West Coast Airline, Wilberforce Street in Freetown updated the press about developments in the Community.

He stated that a new committee comprising of twenty seven members has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the Lebanese committee in Sierra Leone. He added that the committee is for all Lebanese in Sierra Leone and that they the committee leaders are servants. The committee he said is tasked with the responsibility of safeguarding and protecting Lebanese in the country, as well as ensuring that they are law abiding.

The new leadership he said is drawn from various parts of the Lebanese community in Sierra Leone. He added that they love and respect each other. Samir Hassaniyeh disclosed that there was what he called “small misunderstanding” in the community but that this has been cleared finally. “We are all one unit,” he declared, adding that they will work closely for the benefit of all, including Sierra Leoneans.

Stating that the Lebanese Ambassador who is one of them but is out of the country and will be back soon, Samir Hassaniyeh said he wanted to say something very important. “There are people putting things in the press that are not coming from us,” he said.

“People are trying to disrupt the harmony, we are not going to tolerate that,” the Lebanese President said. He furthered that all decisions will be taken by entire community. He added that anything he says as the Lebanese President comes from the entire community, and that any message coming from any other person should not be listened to. He called for cooperation among and between Lebanese and Sierra Leoneans.

He ended by thanking the press for attending the briefing.
